May 15, 2025 – Databricks has announced its acquisition of AI startup Neon for approximately $1 billion, aiming to enhance its data infrastructure for AI-driven applications.

Founded in 2021, Neon has developed a cloud-native database platform designed for developers and AI agents building applications and websites. The acquisition is expected to accelerate the deployment of autonomous AI systems by optimizing data access and integration workflows.

According to Databricks, Neon’s lightweight and scalable architecture will play a key role in the next generation of AI-native agents – capable of handling tasks with minimal human intervention.

“The future of AI is autonomous. By bringing Neon into our ecosystem, we’re simplifying how businesses integrate and scale intelligent systems,” said a Databricks spokesperson.

The acquisition follows Databricks’ rapid growth over the past year, including a $10 billion funding round and a company valuation of over $62 billion.

The Neon team is expected to join Databricks, though a formal integration timeline has not yet been announced.
